Bookmark Widget customization

It would be awesome if we could specify a folder to use for the bookmark widget in order to control which bookmarks show up in a more granular fashion. I currently have a few thousand bookmarks that I keep around in case I might need them at some point, but I don't need those on a daily basis. It would be awesome to have a specific bookmarks folder that is displayed so I can use it as a quick access bar for the sites I most commonly use (but not the haphazard, uncontrollable mess that is the "top sites")
It would also be nice to be able to adjust the icon size for the bookmarks, as well as whether to show the text. Essentially It would be great if I could make it LOOK like the top sites widget, but actually useful.

Unfortunately, this is one of the primary things I am looking for in a new tab page, so this extension isn't very useful for me right now.
